7 Questions to ask Before Buying High-End Furniture

Nicole Meskos

Purchasing high-quality furniture is a major investment, so it's important to understand what is beneath the surface. Asking the right questions before you buy furniture can help you detect quality craftsmanship, durable materials, and value that will last a lifetime.

1. What type of wood is used?

High-quality furniture is made from solid hardwoods including oak, walnut, maple, and cherry. Stickley uses solid hardwoods sourced from FSC-approved Timberlands with minimal waste.

2. How is the furniture constructed?

Stickley furniture is made from durable materials and strong joinery. Joinery techniques include mortise and tenon joints, dovetail joints, and tenons, without a reliance on adhesives.

High-quality pieces, like Stickley, feel sturdy and have an even finish. Doors and drawers open and close smoothly. Stickley is constructed with traditional woodworking techniques.

3. Where is the furniture made?

Domestic manufacturing allows for better quality control and transparency. More than 90% of Stickley furniture is made in the United States, in Manlius, New York, and Archdale, North Carolina. Stickley has been manufacturing furniture since 1900.

4. What warranty is included?

A good manufacturer should be transparent about their warranty. Stickley believes strongly in the quality and integrity of our workmanship and products and wants you to be thoroughly pleased with your Stickley furniture as it becomes a family heirloom. Should the furniture fail structurally at any time during the lifetime of the original owner, because of workmanship or material, Stickley will repair or replace it at our discretion. If Stickley determines that the issue in question is covered by warranty, and that repair is impractical, you will be furnished a replacement product of the same or similar color, design, style, and quality. See L. & J.G. Stickley, Inc. Manufacturer's Limited Warranty for more information.

5. What makes this piece high quality?

6. How will the furniture age over time?

Stickley furniture is designed to last for generations and be passed down over time. Stickley furniture ages beautifully, and gains warmth and character with age, while maintaining its original functionality. Following our Furniture Care Guide ensures your Stickley piece will maintain its original quality.

7. Will this piece fit my space and lifestyle?

Find pieces that work for the way you live. Consider the size of your space and how the piece will be used. Measure your space and compare it with the dimensions of the piece, which you can find in the description of each product online.

We offer a variety of sizes, configurations and wood finishes, ensuring you will find one that matches your home layout and lifestyle. Stickley furniture lasts for generations, so be sure to choose pieces that meet your needs now but can adapt to your future needs as well.
