Our Favorite Things: Stickley Staff Picks 2024

GUEST AUTHOR: Amanda Clifford, Director, The Stickley Museum

‘Tis the season of gift giving and receiving! For the third year, we have asked our colleagues to share their favorite Stickley pieces. It could be something that they already own, or something that is on their wish list, but each piece has a story to share. This year, rockers are as popular as ever!

Jason Richardson, Regional Retail Manager

“My favorite item is the Nichols & Stone Child’s Boston Rocker. This was my first piece of Stickley, given to me by my team in the Fayetteville showroom prior to my son being born. The quality of this item has been able to withstand 3 years of use, and it still looks brand new today.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: While this piece is no longer in production, you may find a few remaining samples on display in our retail showrooms!

, National Sales/Marketing Assistant

“I love all of the Stickley pieces I own. I guess my favorite, or at least the one that means the most, is the Harvey Ellis Rocker. It is the first piece I bought after moving to Syracuse 29 years ago. It’s unbelievable to me that I look at it today and it looks brand new. Just a little bit of tender loving care and Stickley will last a lifetime and beyond. With fourteen grandchildren it has had its share of traffic, but you would never know. I am sure it could tell a few stories.”

Irina Tarasevich, Director, Finance and Accounting

“I always imagined owning a Stickley rocker, and the Harvey Ellis Rocker with Inlay. is by far my favorite. To me, it is a timeless piece of furniture that embodies beauty and longevity, making it perfect to pass down through generations. I can picture a mother gently rocking her child or an elderly parent peacefully dreaming in the afternoon.

The chair is comfortable and graceful, a true testament to craftsmanship. The signature Harvey Ellis inlay design is easily recognizable and iconic. It’s more than a chair, the Harvey Ellis Rocker is an heirloom, a cherished piece meant to create memories and to be treasured by multiple generations.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: The original Harvey Ellis Rocker with Inlay is on view at The Stickley Museum.

John Batten, Vice President, Sales and Marketing

“My favorite Stickley piece is Leopold’s Chair and Ottoman Set in Rialto Pecan leather. The classic look of Leopold’s Chair invites you to sit. The design surrounds and supports you. The slight recline is just the right amount and is even more comfortable when you put your feet up on the ottoman. The height and design of the arms is just right to relax while enjoying television or a good book.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This chair was a personal favorite of Leopold Stickley.

Bob Moore, Customer Service

“I’d have to say the Keyhole Trestle Table is my favorite piece. I do not own one, don’t really have the room, but I’ve always liked it. I find that I tend to like Mission-style furniture with big, obvious construction features on display. I love the keyed tenons and the overall bulky solidness of it—the thick, solid top with those huge trestles—and the proportions are just right.”

Katherine M. Rossler, Director, Compliance & Benefits

“The Tree of Life Pedestal is an incredible piece of furniture, with such a deep connection to nature and my heritage. Trees are symbols of growth, strength, and interconnectedness. Trees hold a special place in many cultures and in my personal experiences. I have found it so interesting to see the tree not just in its physical form, but also as a symbol of family, resilience, and the cycles of life.

Having a piece like the Tree of Life Pedestal in my space helps to feel grounded and empowered, reflecting the very qualities we admire in trees. It represents not only my connection to my Irish heritage but also my personal journey and appreciation of nature’s rhythms. It will be the next piece I hope to purchase.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: The Tree of Life Pedestal is an early Gustav Stickley design from the 1900s.

Mark Morgan, Customer Service Manager, Stickley and Nichols & Stone

“While I don’t have one at home, I do love the feel and the look of the Bustle Back Bow Arm Morris Recliner. It is one of the most comfortable recliners I have ever sat in.”

Bonnie Smith, Regional Visual Merchandiser, Stickley Furniture | Mattress

“While there are many Stickley pieces I love, the Bookshelf Tower is truly one of my favorites.  I purchased it earlier this year. The scale is absolutely perfect, and I love how the shelves are constructed to fit the angles of the piece seamlessly.  It's the first thing I see when I walk into my home, and it currently holds some of my favorite books along with handmade gifts that were given to me by my children. I couldn't be happier with it!”
