Wedge Doorstop

Great addition along with other Stickley items I have in the house.

First of all, I own 12 Stickley pieces, all purchased over the past five years as the opportunity presented itself. I have made it a principle to surround myself with items that have a signature, or are well known for craftsmanship. My purchase of the doorstops was a solution to a bit of a marriage conflict. I was excited! Finally a win win. Honestly though, if I’d slowed down I would have noticed the unnecessarily costly shipping costs, and wouldn’t have ordered. After all I’ve a friend locally making lovely hand crafted pieces as a new venture—he’s my former priest and his work is high in integrity.
Nevertheless, when they arrived I was sorely disappointed. The wood is lightweight. I expected more heft. There’s no Stickley label—I mean in this day and age at least run it thru a machine and burn in the label. Overall, it’s the first time I’ve been disappointed, and I’m grateful it was “only” a $50 purchase…given I teach art at a private school, just know $50 is two hours of my labor.
In a more positive note, I’ve watched Stickley move into the marketplace with more current marketing trends and I think the new designs are indeed fresh. I’m encouraging my children to consider buying Stickley first—they don’t have to wait until it’s midlife to do so. I am though seriously hoping the standards are not slipping. I know, it’s only a door stop—a piece of scrap wood repurposed for use and profit…but, give it gravitas or don’t sell it.
