October is “Stickley Designer Rug Month” at your nearest retailer, so it’s the perfect time to explore this longtime Stickley offering. Hand-knotted rugs are a wonderful way to introduce softness, color, and artistry to a beautifully decorated room, and for many years Stickley has proudly offered the Designer Rug collection to fill this need. In keeping with our 125-year dedication to authentic materials and the work of the artisan, these rugs are handcrafted from the world’s finest fibers by highly skilled weavers in Nepal, Pakistan, and India—where the art of rug-making originated more than 2500 years ago.

A time-honored craft, a smart investment
Hand-knotted rugs made with traditional techniques far surpass mass-market rugs in terms of quality, style, and longevity. As they have been for thousands of years, experienced artisans are vital to every step of the rug-making process: washing, carding, spinning, and dyeing the yarn; painstakingly weaving the design on a loom; and finishing, shearing, washing, and inspecting the completed piece.

Natural, biodegradable materials like Himalayan sheep’s wool make these rugs a sustainable choice, and the traditional weaving process also has a minimal impact on the environment compared to mass-produced alternatives. What’s more, lanolin-coated wool fibers are naturally stain-resistant, meaning the rugs are surprisingly easy to maintain with regular vacuuming and spot cleaning. Finally, the tightly packed, individually tied knots and resilient fibers make them extraordinarily durable. With proper care, they can last for many decades, even centuries, and are often passed down as treasured family heirlooms.
Inspired Stickley style
For lovers of Arts and Crafts, creating a truly immersive room environment involves more than just iconic Mission furniture, and it should come as no surprise that Stickley remains the source for authentic Arts and Crafts–style rugs. Among our most beautiful creations, you’ll find designs that honor such talents of the movement as William Morris, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Dard Hunter, C.F.A. Voysey, and Frank Lloyd Wright.

In addition to Arts and Crafts rugs, we pride ourselves on versatile looks that mix and match comfortably with a wide range of home décor styles, in designs including abstract patterns and traditional motifs reinterpreted with a modern scale. For select contemporary rugs, Himalayan wool is blended with silk to create a lush, all-natural pile that holds up beautifully to everyday wear. And traditional Persian and Indian carpet styles reflect the long, rich history of rug-making and employ time-honored techniques that make the rugs works of art.

Like our furniture, Stickley hand-crafted rugs are designed and manufactured with attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Also like our furniture, they will become family heirlooms that generations will enjoy.
